Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Curtis Martin, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jerome Bettis, Eric Dickerson and Tony Dorsett. Those are the only eight other running backs in NFL history that have more rushing yards than Gore, who currently has 12,710.
But, “The Inconvenient Truth” isn’t done climbing the ladder just yet, as he trails Dorsett by just 29 yards.
Out of the top-10 rushers in NFL history, only Tomlinson has not been inducted to the Hall of Fame, but he is in his first year of eligibility.
Through 11 games of the 2016 season, Gore has 178 rushes for 670 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He has also tied his career-high in receiving touchdowns for a single season with three, while corralling 29 passes for 204 yards.
He has carried the ball at least 200 times each year since 2005. He is on pace for another 1,000+ yards from scrimmage season, which he has accomplished each year of his career since his rookie year in 2005. He ranks 12th all time in yards from scrimmage.
Gore has eight 1,000-yard rushing seasons, has been selected to five Pro Bowls and has rushed for a potent 4.4 yards per carry in his career. His one knock is that he has only been named to an All-Pro team one time in his career, so his yard totals are essential to making it to the Hall of Fame.
